Amusing Ourselves to Death
I've mentioned this book several times recently in comments elsewhere. It occurred to me that I should mention it at my own web site, too:
Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business
by Neil Postman
If TV news and talk radio leave you feeling something other than well-informed, Postman's little book might explain why.

This is why I read blogs. That lead to writing blogs. It put me in the hunt for what really is going on. If you read something like Mark C Millers NewsFromUnderground google group/blog, you will hear a whole stream of news about election irregularities that the cute bantering "reporters" on TV never mention. my local tv news has gotten so trite and juvenile, I only watch the weather reports. They simplify, they alarm they work hard for drama which is hard to do without content. I will get that book.
